A bear was found tangled in power pole wires of Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative. Company linemen immediately disabled the power so the bear would not be electrocuted and freed the animal.

Graham County Electric Coop will move forward with the potential sale of its natural gas division upon the affirmative two-thirds vote of its members on October 17th. The division has not made any money since 1989, is projected to lose $291,000 this year, and is $2.625 million in debt. Southwest Gas has expressed an interest in purchasing the division.

The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday in a bipartisan effort to repeal the “Cadillac Tax” provision of the Affordable Care Act. The provision, which taxed some employer-sponsored health care plans with a 40% surcharge, was panned by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association for unfairly affecting coops due to higher rural health care costs.

South Texas Electrical Cooperative (STEC) has signed a facilities agreement with Annova LNG for 405 MW, representing the total electric transmission needs for a 6.0 MTPA LNG export project. Magic Valley Electric Cooperative, a member of STEC, will be the sole provider of electric energy to power the facility.
