New Mexico Coop Launches 4,000-Panel Solar Facility

On June 25, 2018, Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) and Guzman Energy launched a 4000-panel solar array near Eagle Nest Lake in New Mexico. This project is part of KCEC’s goal of providing 100 percent of its customers’ daytime power needs from solar energy by 2022.

Solar Development Transforming Rural Energy Landscape

The acceleration of solar development by electric cooperatives is changing the energy landscape in rural America. Arkansas Coop to Purchase Additional Wind-Generated Energy

Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement with Wildhorse Wind Energy, LLC, a subsidiary of Southern Power. Pursuant to the power purchase agreement, AECC will purchase wind-generated energy from a 100 MW wind project, which is expected to reach commercial operation by the end of 2019.

Virginia Cooperative Announces Commissioning of 10 MW of Solar Energy

Central Virginia Electric Cooperative and Coronal Energy announced the commissioning of the Palmer and Martin solar centers in central Virginia. The two projects total 10 MW, and combine to make up the largest solar project in Virginia for an electric distribution cooperative.

Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, Inc., along with CoServ Electric, have entered into a multiyear PPA with 7X Energy, Inc. for the sale of solar energy from a 35 MW solar project in Andrews County, Texas.

Dairyland to Install Three New Solar Gardens

Dairyland Power Cooperative (Dairyland) announced plans for three new solar power garden installations to begin construction later this year. Dairyland signed power purchase agreements with SoCore Energy of Chicago to build the solar gardens, which will be located in Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois.

New Wind Project Unveiled for Martha’s Vineyard

Vineyard Power Cooperative, Inc., an energy cooperative serving the Martha’s Vineyard area, and Vineyard Wind LLC, an offshore wind development company, have unveiled plans for a proposed wind facility, Offshore Wind Operation & Maintenance. The new facility is expected to employ up to 40 people and will help address climate change, ocean acidification and coastal erosion.

CIPCO Announces Development of Wind Facility

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) announced development of the Heartland Divide Wind Farm, a 104 MW wind project, which is set for completion by the end of 2018. Once operational, the new wind farm will represent CIPCO’s largest wind energy project to date.

Hoosier and EDPR Partner on Solar Project

Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Hoosier) and EDP Renewables (EDPR) have executed a power purchase agreement in connection with the 200 MW Riverstart Solar Park, which is expected to be operational in 2022. Riverstart Solar Park will be the largest solar array in Indiana, producing enough clean electricity to power approximately 37,000 households.
