Executive of Kentucky Coop Warns of the Impacts that Proposed EPA Rules Will Have on Industrial Customers

Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative’s Annual Meeting Highlights Growth and Cost Issues

Rule Requiring Installation of Pollution Controls on Back-up Generators Would Cost Iowa Cooperatives Big Money

The CEO of North Iowa Municipal Electric Cooperative objected to the rule because coop’s members would have to pay more than $5 million to install catalyst technology on back-up units that run for a yearly average of 11 hours each.  Based on cost-benefit concerns like these, Governor Branstad vetoed the state rule.  Radio Iowa has the full story.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative Rating Downgraded by Fitch

Fitch Ratings downgraded Basin Electric Power Cooperative to ‘A+/F1’; Outlook Stable based in part on declining profits from its subsidiary, Dakota Gasification Company.  Although Basin continues to show strength in many areas, Fitch expects that Basin’s board will vote to increase rates to stabilize its financial condition.  See Business Wire for more. 

Socorro Electric Cooperative in Technical Default on RUS Loans

Socorro Electric Cooperative failed to meet its profit levels for the second year in a row. To avoid default on its $52 million in federal loans, the New Mexico cooperative plans to raise rates and implement other cost-saving measures. Socorro Electric is seeking an average rate increase of 6.95 percent. The El Defensor Chieftain is following this story.

East Kentucky Power Cooperative Gets $43 Million Rate Increase

Kentucky’s Public Service Commission has agreed to a $43 million rate increase for East Kentucky Power Cooperative.  CNHI News Service notes that East Kentucky recently settled a lawsuit with environmental groups, in which it agreed to drop plans for a new coal-fired plant at its Winchester facilities.
