Recent CoBank Report Indicates Solar Growth

CoBank recently released a report noting that the U.S. could experience a jump in solar installations of more than 70 percent by 2016.  The study projects that solar installation will increase from 7 GW in 2014 to 12 GW in 2016.  The increase is based in large part on the Solar Investment Tax Credit, which is currently 30 percent but will drop to 10 percent in 2017.  Click here to read...

North Carolina Coop’s Solar Farm to Provide Benefits to Members

Pee Dee Electric Cooperative has announced plans to install a 100-Kw community solar farm adjacent to its corporate headquarters.  The solar farm will produce about 150,000-kWh of electricity annually, and members of Pee Dee Electric will be able to purchase individual panels and sell the power produced by the panels back to the cooperative.  Members who participate in the project will...

Coops among Recipients of USDA Rural Development Loans and Grants

EIA Report: No Coal-Fired Sources Added in First Half of 2014

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that new generation capacity added during the first half of 2014 came only from natural gas and renewable sources, such as wind and solar facilities.  No coal-fired sources were added during this time frame.  Coops can expect more natural gas capacity and a risk of increased price volatility.  Click here to read more.
