Tri-State G&T Association Asks D.C. Circuit to Delay Mercury Rule

In light of a recent Supreme Court ruling, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. (Tri-State G&T) has asked the D.C. Obama Administration Considers Pushing Back Clean Power Plan Deadlines

NRECA Study Links Higher Electricity Prices to Job Losses

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) recently released a study highlighting the relationship between higher electricity prices and job losses.  The study shows the impact of a 10 and 25 percent price increase on the gross domestic product and jobs from 2020 to 2040.  Please click here for additional information.

Bonneville Power Administration’s Rate Increase to Hit Coops

Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) recently announced that it will raise its wholesale power rates by 7.1 percent and its transmission rates by 4.4 percent, effective October 1.  BPA, a federal agency and the largest wholesale provider in the northwestern United States, supplies wholesale power to 54 electric cooperatives.  Click here for more.

USDA Announces Funding for Rural Electric Infrastructure Projects

The Secretary of Agriculture announced today that $349 million in funding would be provided for 15 rural electric infrastructure projects.  The projects will build or improve almost 2,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines for rural electric cooperatives and utilities in 13 states.  Click here for more information.

Texas Requests Fifth Circuit Review of US EPA Action

House Passes Bill to Delay EPA Greenhouse Gas Rule

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on June 24, for which the NRECA has voiced support, that would delay implementation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan until after courts have determined its legality.  To read more about the bill click here.

EPA Mercury Emissions Rule Blocked

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the EPA’s mercury and air toxins emissions rules which have been in effect since 2011.  In a 5-4 decision, the Court held that the EPA acted “unreasonably” by foregoing a cost analysis when regulating emissions under the Clean Air Act.
