Arkansas Bill Regarding Turk Plant Moving Forward

Arkansas House Bill 1895 (related to the John W. Turk Jr. Plant being constructed by Southwestern Electric Power Co. and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Corp.) has been approved by a House committee. The Arkansas Public Service Commission approved construction of the plant in 2007. However, the Arkansas Supreme Court overturned the commission’s approval, holding that such approval must be completed in one hearing (not two as was the case for the Turk plant). The bill would permit the commission’s use of two hearings for the approval of construction of a power plant. Arkansas Times has a write-up, and ArkansasOnline has additional details (but requires a subscription to view the full story).
