Lee County Electric Cooperative in Florida was able to reconnect communities on the barrier islands of Sanibel, Captiva, and Upper Captiva back to the electric grid weeks ahead of schedule. The original estimate for restoration to the communities ravaged by Hurricane Ian was November 15, but the cooperative was able to connect the last communities on October 23.

A Louisiana regulator approved two power procurement deals sought by Dixie Electric Membership Cooperative and Jefferson Davis Electric Cooperative to acquire power from NextEra. The move came despite objections by Louisiana’s electric monopolies. According to Public Service Commissioner Craig Greene, the deals could save cooperatives $160 million over the next decade.

While the North Carolina Department of Transportation began its final phase of the Jug Handle Bridge project, the Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative continues work on the new conduit system located under the 2.4-mile-long structure.
